Real Estate Guidance for Seniors
Your Next Move Should Be the Right Move for You
Real estate decisions later in life often involve much more than simply buying or selling a home.
You may be considering downsizing, moving closer to family, finding a home that’s easier to maintain, relocating to a senior community—or deciding that staying right where you are is the best choice.
As a Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES®) with 23 years of real estate experience and more than 37 years of calling El Dorado County home, I understand that these decisions deserve time, patience, and thoughtful planning.
My goal is not to push you toward a particular decision. It’s to help you understand your options and determine what makes the most sense for you, your finances, your home, and the lifestyle you want going forward.
More Than Just Selling Your Home
For many longtime homeowners, preparing to sell can feel overwhelming. There may be decades of belongings to sort through, repairs that have been put off, and questions about what should—or shouldn’t—be done before putting the home on the market.
This is an area where our experience can make a real difference.
With my background and expertise in Interior Design and staging, I can help you determine how to present your home at its best without spending money unnecessarily. We’ll identify cost-effective repairs and improvements that may increase buyer appeal and help your property compete more effectively in the market.
My husband, Ralph, a retired contractor with more than 25 years of home building and remodeling experience, can also provide a practical perspective when we’re evaluating potential repairs and improvements.
Sometimes the most valuable advice we can give is not only what to do—but what not to spend money on.
Local Resources When You Need Them
Over the years, we’ve developed relationships with local professionals and service providers who can help with many of the details that often accompany a move or lifestyle transition.
Depending on your situation, we can help connect you with resources for estate sales, property clean-up and preparation, cost-effective repairs, inspections, moving-related services, and other local professionals who may be needed along the way.
You don’t have to figure everything out at once—or do everything yourself. Part of our job is helping you put the right people and resources together.
Reverse Mortgages — They May Not Be What You Think
Reverse mortgages have changed and improved considerably over the years. Today’s reverse mortgages have additional rules and consumer protections and may offer options that many homeowners don’t realize are available. They are not your parents’ reverse mortgages!
For some homeowners, a reverse mortgage may provide a way to access a portion of their home’s equity while continuing to live in their home. Whether it makes sense depends on your individual circumstances, and we can connect you with an experienced reverse-mortgage professional who can explain the options, costs, requirements, and alternatives.
Did You Know You Can Purchase a Home Using a Reverse Mortgage?
Many people are surprised to learn that an eligible buyer can use a type of reverse mortgage—often called a HECM for Purchase—to help purchase a new primary residence.
For the right person, this could be an option when downsizing or moving to a home that’s better suited to the next stage of life. It generally requires a substantial down payment, and eligibility and other requirements apply, so it’s important to review the details with a qualified reverse-mortgage professional
Experience You Can Rely On
As a Lifetime Top Achiever, I’ve built my business by providing knowledgeable, personal service and treating each client’s situation individually.
My SRES® training adds another layer of knowledge specifically focused on the real estate needs and considerations of older adults and their families. Combined with decades of local experience, staging and interior-design expertise, Ralph’s construction background, and our network of trusted local resources, we can help you look at the whole picture—not simply the real estate transaction.
Whether your next step is selling, downsizing, purchasing another home, or simply exploring your options, we’ll help you gather the information you need to make a decision you feel comfortable with.
Sometimes the best first step isn’t listing your home. It’s simply having a conversation about your options.
