Cool is an unincorporated community in El Dorado County, California which is located east of the city of Auburn across North Fork American River. The town borders Auburn Lake Trails and Greenwood to the east, and Pilot Hill to the south. The beautiful region of Cool is known for its lush green hillsides with fantastic landscapes and rivers. There are amazing outdoor trails throughout the community where many hikers frequently visit throughout the year. A perfect example of the many outdoor destinations in Cool is the Auburn State Recreational Area which offers breathtaking views of the natural wonders of the California foothills. Formerly known as Cave Valley, the area of Cool was established in 1850 as a way station where stagecoaches frequented the region due to the Gold Rush era. Today, there are still several historic sites in the community including the famous Penobscot Ranch. Like many other communities in El Dorado County, Cool also features a wide selection of homes and residential properties. There are several small suburban and semi-suburban neighborhoods in the region as well as extensive home acreage sites.
