About Placerville, CA
Placerville is the county seat of El Dorado County, and it is where Lincoln Highway and Highway 49 intersect. The area of Gold Hill sits to the northwest, Apple Hill to the east, and Diamond Springs to the south border the city. The small town has a population of over 10,000 and is the still part of the Sacramento Metropolitan Statistical Area. There are several historical landmarks in the community that preserve the history of Gold Rush which boomed in the region. This includes Gold Bug Park and Mine which used to be an actual mine and is now a family-friendly cultural site where guests can relive the old mining days of the city. Nowadays gold in the area is mostly from the many wineries and vineyards that are predominant in the fertile lands of El Dorado County.
